“The first CREETUR pants were free hand drawn onto black and white striped Marimekko bed sheets. This time was a period of rest, restlessness, grief, and change. I had nothing but a pen, thrifted fabric, an emergency sashiko needle and a bit of cotton thread I packed in my suitcase, and a dear friend’s kitchen scissors. I folded the fabric onto the wood floor, and traced my body to make a forensic chalk outline. I backstitched the first CREETUR pants by hand in one evening with my sashiko needle.
Arriving back in New York, I received a lot of interest in this design. It took more than four iterations to re-create the original drawing and turn it into a pattern that honors the simplicity of its inception. CREETUR pants are a foundational piece for every mood, season, and day. Clothing technology to traverse the devastating beauty of the human experience. — MASAYO
